This country is founded on the the principle that all are "created equal. Americans have fought to preserve this basic right since our nations inception. This does not apply to some of the people, some of the time, nor should it limit certain rights for certain people.
Equal protection under the law means that all Americans should have the same full civil rights, regardless of sexual orientation. Marriage is a fundamental civil right being denied to same-sex couples. The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), Proposition 8 in California as well as others like it across the country, and those who campaign and preach that the right to marry is reserved for male-female couples only, are denying same-sex couples equal rights and violating the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Homophobia, like any form of bigotry and discrimination denies its victims the humanity and dignity they deserve. Today, many of our State and Federal laws, by design, still discriminate against our LGBT friends, family and co-workers.
Together we must change laws, policies and minds to ensure that all Americans are afforded equal protections regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation. We must ensure that State and Federal legislation and policy forbid discrimination in any form and where they fall short, we must support those who are working to change them.
Respect is the most basic form of human decency, deserved by every American. We must promote and celebrate the teaching of respect for all humankind as a priority in every family, school, organization and place of worship.
Through the teaching of respect, we can further ensure that our LGBT friends, family and co-workers will live in an environment free of judgment, rejection and hostility.
In order to fully respect ourselves we must first give other the respect they are due.
Together we can turn the wheels of change faster, ushering in an age of true equality through unity. One by one we must speak with our friends, family and co-workers in order to build momentum that is unstoppable. With open hearts and minds, we must bring together Americans from every race, religion, economic background and sexual orientation to advance the cause of equality.
The fight for unfettered equality is a movement for all Americans – it’s the spirit that makes this country powerful & unique. As more voices join in this conversation, a stronger and louder message will be heard across our great country. With each individual action, be it a painting, a lawsuit, a letter to an editor, or an honest conversation, we add to the cumulative energy of the people’s movement towards equality.
Gay Rights are Civil Rights. We, as Americans, expect and demand equal treatment under the laws of our nation for all people without bias of race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality or cultural background. We stand with the generations of Americans who have fought and continue to give their lives to protect these freedoms.
Equal treatment under the law is a right afforded to all Americans under our Constitution as an entitlement of citizenship. By fighting, today and in the future, to expand and protect these rights, we honor those who fought so hard in the past to further equality.
Love is at the core of our being; it is our fundamental acceptance of every human being for exactly who they are. We must nurture Love, share Love, respect Love, and protect Love. The promotion of Love, and a couple’s reverence and commitment to be bound by love and law, is something that we, as a society should support and encourage. It is this shared value of commitment to love that strengthens our families, our communities, our country and our world.
