Meet the Artist: Julian Callos

Meet the Artist: Julian Callos

Why have you chosen to participate in Manifest Equality?

I chose to participate because I believe this is an amazing opportunity to incite thought and action through art, a medium to which I've dedicated most of my life. As a gay man living in America during a time when issues of gay rights are being so fervently debated and scrutinized both for and against, I admittedly haven't done as much as I could to show my support for gay rights and for issues that affect me on such a personal level. This opportunity has ignited a sense of pride, duty, and camaraderie in me, and I hope it does the same for others, no matter their orientation.

As much as creating art is a personal experience for the artist, I think the true power of art lies in how it affects others, so I hope my work and the message that the entire show represents and seeks to spread has a positive and influential effect.

Describe a bit about your submission to the gallery or the creative process you are putting into it?

Nothing is set in stone at this point, so ideas may change. But I want my piece to be a reflection of love and the fact that love in the LGBT community is just as beautiful as any other and it deserves to be supported.

What else would you like to manifest?

Compassion, resolve, understanding, and optimism.
