Meet the Artist: Nathan Spoor

Why have you chosen to participate in Manifest Equality?

Because of that, it's a choice.

We choose to be together or we choose to be separate. I can't sit by and let a smaller minded agenda dictate whether or not we have equal rights, and being one person I can choose to band with other evolved beings to understand that we're one human organism. If one of us is hurt it affects the whole self. And bigotry and ism's hurt all of us. Equality is one fact that exists, and I'm proud to be a part of manifesting reality with my brothers and sisters.

Describe a bit about your submission to the gallery or the creative process you are putting into it?

My creative process is an interesting sort of adventure. I think it has a lot to do with the concept stated in the title of the show, manifesting. I got wind of the opportunity to be a part of this from a dear soul that is always brimming with lovely energy, so I think that really helps and makes it easier (thanks Amy). And since it's something that I feel would actually help humanity move forward the imagery would be something with depth. I took a couple days to just sit with the concept, then really gave it some thought without involving any creative writing or drawing or anything. I went to bed with it on my mind and by the morning the idea had arrived. It was 6am, in fact. Not that the time makes a difference, but it was early and I've learned that whenever the ideas arrive (usually right before or right after getting relaxed for sleep) I have to take a mental snapshot of the image and sketch it out as quickly as possible.

So the image that appeared shows a pair of blue hands knitting an embryo with an 'equal' sign on the lower portion of the bubble. To me, this means that from the very start as embryos and infants of our future selves, we are knit from the same genetic and cosmic material. Though we are cut from the same cloth, so to speak, we each grow into different beings. We have the same code or nuclear materials, but the outcomes are all unique. That's what we should be celebrating, our unique and beautiful differences within the greater human whole.

What else would you like to manifest?

The ability for all mankind to understand their power and responsibility to grow forward, together. All it really takes is a mindset focused on 'us' rather than the 'me'.
