Why have you chosen to participate in Manifest Equality?
I was lucky enough to grow up in a family very accepting of people of different colors and persuasions. My house was always filled with interesting people and different languages. I took for granted that everyone had what I did, that exposure to different people and cultures. When I left home I was faced with the reality that the opposite is usually true. I've met people who have searched for my horns and I've been disregarded by my own people because I am not the right color and I can't speak the right language.
I'm participating in Manifest Equality because I want to protest against discrimination in a way I can't vocalize.
There should be so much more love and acceptance in the world than there is. After all, we're all people, just different parts of the same thing.
Describe a bit about your submission to the gallery or the creative process you are putting into it?
I've been doing a bit of screenprinting lately and I decided to continue to explore that medium for my piece. I am currently obsessed with multiples and repetition. I love the effect of bringing a lot of similar things together to make a greater whole.
The symbolism of small pieces coming together to make something greater seemed fitting for this project so I decided to explore it further.
What else would you like to manifest?
Love.
